I’ve been in many slums and many tent cities since day one. And I’ve always been impressed on how people quickly managed to go on with their lives. At the Ste Therèse Parc in Pétion-Ville I was amazed by how clean it was and how they had separated the camp in different sectors and assigned people in charge to make sure that it’s always clean. click for more and a short video

About a year ago, my father and I presented a housing project to Haiti called Ti Kay O.

Ti Kay O is a dome made entirely out of fiberglass, and which shape was designed to withstand the winds and pouring of category 5 hurricanes, and earthquakes. Between the fiberglass and the decorative wood, there is a special kind of insulation that keeps the temperature inside cool at all times. The distribution can vary and contain the following: bedrooms, a full bathroom, a kitchenette, a office, a living room, a game room and a dining room. The size will depend on space availability and needs.

The use of a Ti Kay O can vary from a temporary house on an open space, storage space, classrooms, temporary medical clinic and more.

Fortunately, the Ti Kay O production venue was unhurt by the earthquake. I just spoke to my father, currently in Haiti, and he assured me that all we need is the funding to start mass production right away. The model that his has in mind will cost US $8,000. The delivery of the houses can be in approximately 2 MONTHS.

This will temporarily solve the housing problem, for Haitians and volunteers, but it will provide immediate work. With the people working, maybe we can prevent certain things from happening. We are asking for your help. We need funding so we can order the supplies and start on production. You may find pictures on the link below:

@fredodupoux: jacmel is similar to port-au-prince. i talked to a friend over there and told me it’s not looking good. he is actually stuck over there and cant join his family in PAP tonight.

@fredodupoux: it wasn’t big enough to destroy streets, just to break down tall  and poorly constructed buildings

i couldn’t go to far out because all the gas stations are closed and i don’t know when they’ll be back up.
i have to keep the very low gas i have for tomorow morning.

@fredodupoux:it was designed to be tough ! (not by haitians i believe) so it’s still standing up tall (off records)
